Guildford Harmony Ladies Barbershop Chorus is made up of 25 ladies from differing backgrounds and of varied ages who share a passion for singing in harmony.
We describe ourselves as a chorus rather than a choir because our main aim is to bring songs to life for an audience. In a chorus all of the singers act together to perform a piece rather than supporting soloists or musical instruments.
We sing unaccompanied and most of the songs you will hear us perform are arranged in the kind of close four-part harmony that generates tingles and brings a smile to the hearts of our audiences.
We are members of the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS) and have a strong barbershop background but the songs in our repertoire come from many genres and eras.
Our goal is high-quality singing and the challenge of the annual LABBS Chorus competition and local music festival contests help to keep our standards high but performance is our passion and the fun always shines through whatever we do and whoever we are singing for.
We entertain all kinds of audiences at all sorts of events throughout the year, raising money for charity and for our own club funds. In 2008 we gave fourteen performances and put on a show at Christmas, all in aid of our charity of the year which was Chase Children's Hospice.
