    GUILDFORD HARMONY

     MUSIC TEAM

The figurehead and foundation of any chorus is its Musical Director and we are very pleased to say that Andrew Edgley joined us in that capacity in May 2009

Andrew Edgley is a self-confessed singing addict. During his formative years he sang in the church choir and attended North Notts Music school where he studied piano, trumpet, singing and theory well as playing in various ensembles. Since then he has sung continuously in all sorts of groups. Andrew’s love of barbershop harmony started in the early ‘80s when he formed his first quartet and it was a natural progression to start directing singing groups after that. He has served time as Director of Harbour Lights ladies group in Portsmouth and as Assistant Director of the Knights of Harmony men's chorus in Chesham and Assistant Director of Solent City Chorus, based in Portsmouth.

The rest of the Guildford Harmony Music Team have worked together in Guildford for a little longer. Kath Roodhouse is our Assistant Musical Director and Tenor Section Leader. She sings tenor with the Chorus and occasionally directs us. Sometimes she manages to do both at the same time! She also arranges some of our music and writes original material too. In 1995 she won the LABBS (Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers) International Song Contest with 'Musical Daisy Chain'.

Isabel Cockram (Baritone Section Leader) and Maureen Hallett (Bass Section Leader) are also experienced barbershoppers with 20 years experience under their waistbands. They have recently been joined by Judith Leach who has just taken over as Lead Section Leader.

The Music Team support the MD, choosing suitable music, taking section practices and warmups, and helping to teach the songs that become part of the chorus repertoire.
